My pick of the picks of the fringe

Chase Padgett, 6 Guitars, Vancouver Fringe Festival

Chase Padgett is a knockout in 6 Guitars

Again this year, the Vancouver Fringe Festival is holding over some of its most popular shows.

Of those, I highly recommend 6 Guitars and Unpossible!

In 6 Guitars, Chase Padgett becomes half a dozen characters who all play the guitar in different styles. His performance is so virtuosic—his characters are sharp, his musicianship is excellent, the script is funny and moving—that I gave him the Critic’s Choice Award at this year’s fringe.

6 Guitars is at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (SFU Woodwards) on Wednesday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m.

I also loved Unpossible!, which was one of my nominees for the Critic’s Choice Award. Magician Travis Bernhardt is a smart, charming guy whose mind-reading illusions will scramble your brains.

Unpossible! plays the Goldcorp Centre on Thursday, September 26 at 8:00 and Sunday, September 29 at 6:00.

Fringe on!
