Confession of an effete local yokel

effete local yokel Colin Thomas

Okay, it’s a bathroom selfie, but it tells the story.

When I gave a generally negative review to the Bard on the Beach production of King Lear, an online commenter going by the name Edward Bernays took issue and called me an “effete local yokel”.

A few days later, I ran into Simon Webb on Fourth Avenue and complained: “I didn’t even know it was possible to be an effete yokel.”

Simon: “Well, look at what you’re wearing.”

Pink shorts, polka-dot Desigual shirt, cowboy hat.” Point taken.
